Can You Get an EIN First Before Having an ITIN?
The answer is yes, yes you can.
Oftentimes, we get people who come to us. Yeah, I’ve signed up with a company, I won’t say names because we’re not going to be unprofessional here, but competitor companies or other companies out there.
They say, “I’ve signed up with them. I got my LLC formed. I’m trying to get my EIN, but they’re telling me I can’t get it because I don’t have my ITIN.” We always tell them, “I think you’ve been misinformed because you can get your EIN without first having your ITIN.” The other companies tell them, “No, you can’t. No, we won’t offer that service to you unless you comply with our requests.”

Apply for Your EIN on Trusted Companies
A big thing that happens is we get a lot of people who come to us from other companies saying that “This company I signed up with won’t give me my EIN, because I don’t have my ITIN. They refuse to work with me.” Some of them can be pretty brash too.
We always let them know that it’s not that these companies are bad, they’re great companies and they’re great at what they do, but oftentimes these companies don’t specialize in working with non-US citizens like the clients who come to us.
The difference between them and us is we both are great at what we do, but those companies don’t specialize in working with non-US citizens, whereas we only work with non-US citizens.
That’s what we specialize in. That’s why we’re able to do these services better than those companies because it’s just this is what we specialize in.
They’re more used to working with US citizens as opposed to non-US citizens. This is a prime example of that because they’re misinforming people that you can’t get your EIN without first having your ITIN. That’s just not true.
How to Get Your EIN First Before Having Your ITIN?
The way the process works is you’ve registered the business, like your LLC or corporation and then ultimately use that to help get your EIN, which we can do for you.
Then we can, in some cases, use the business and EIN documentation to help get the ITIN for some cases. That’s the way the process works for a foreign entrepreneur.
A lot of these companies have it backward, and so these clients who come to us, you know, that’s what they say.
They say, “I need to have in my ITIN and my EIN to start my business,” when that’s completely false. You need to get the business started first, then get the EIN and then get the ITIN.
