It’s how to get an ITIN for licensure exams for fields like contracting, nursing, real estate, insurance, and sometimes even medical school students and more.

Why is an ITIN a Requirement to Take a Licensure Exam?

Let me explain why these fields and others are requiring the ITIN.

So for people who want to go into contracting, nursing, real estate, insurance, and other fields like it, and they want to sit for the licensure exam in their state to be licensed for that field, the state’s requiring, in order to sit for the license exam, an SSN or ITIN in order to do so.

So oftentimes, the people who are non-residents and non-US citizens, they don’t have the SSN or ITIN, and they’re not able to sit for that licensure exam to get licensed in the field that they want to go to in their state.

So now, we’ve been getting a lot of clients in this particular situation over the last few years.

And one thing that I have noticed also with these particular types of clients in this situation, I completely understand why they all need the ITIN. It makes complete sense to me. But on paper, actually, technically, the majority of them don’t qualify to apply for an ITIN.

That’s the common theme that I’ve seen with most of them. So these cases are always interesting for me because they’re a lot more difficult than other cases, and I have to be able to work with the client and I get creative and I get them to qualify to apply for an ITIN.

I’m thankful to say that every single client that I’ve had that’s fallen into a situation, I’ve successfully been able to get that ITIN for them from the IRS.

I mentioned that you can also, for medical school students who are nonresident aliens and non-US citizens and they’re, let’s say, for example, they’re trying to apply for residencies in California. This has popped up a few times, and even with some of my former classmates. I used to be in medical school before this. So some of my former classmates I have helped out in this particular situation.

So if you’re a medical school student, and you’re trying to apply for a California residency, you need something called a PTAL letter. To get the PTAL letter, they’re requesting an SSN or ITIN.

So I’ve been able to work with even medical school students on being able to get the ITIN for this purpose too. And I can happily say that some of my former classmates that I helped get the ITIN for, that we’re in this situation, they’re now in California residencies.
